Ace Group has been issued a show cause notice for YXP project

Ace Group, a real estate developer, has been issued a show cause notice in connection with its project in Yamuna Expressway.

Here are the details:

Project Name: The project is located off the Yamuna Expressway.

Borewells: A government team discovered 60 borewells at the site of the YXP township in Sector 22D.

Motorized Borewells: At least 10 of these borewells were equipped with motors, enhancing their water-drawing capacity.

Groundwater Level: The construction site falls within the ‘overexploited’ zone in terms of groundwater levels.

NOC Requirement: An NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the groundwater wing is mandatory for water extraction at construction sites.

Violation: Since the area is already in an overexploited zone, no permission can be granted for water extraction from borewells.

Action Taken: Ace Group has been given 15 days to respond to the show cause notice. If no NOC has been obtained, fines may be imposed.

Depletion of Groundwater: According to a recent government report, groundwater levels in Greater Noida have depleted by 2.3 meters in the past six years.

Previous Fines: In the past year, around 30 complaints were received regarding water extraction using borewells at project sites. Last year, the UP Pollution Control Board imposed a fine of ₹76.5 crore on 38 builders for water extraction violations.

Yamuna Expressway Authority Inquiry: The Yamuna Expressway Authority, which oversees the area, will conduct its own inquiry.
